The Past and Present Life of Wisdom City

Connecting the Past with the Future

Louis Mumford, a modern American philosopher, once said, "Cities are a special structure, compact and compact, used to spread the fruits of human civilization." The word "civilization" in many western languages originates from the Latin word "Civitas", which means "city", and shows the characteristics of city promoting civilization, including all aspects and all-embracing.

The global urbanization process is long and far-reaching, which also witnesses the continuous evolution of human civilization. In 1800, only 2% of the world's population lived in cities, and by 2000, about half of the world's population had moved to cities. In China, from 1978 to 2017, the urbanization rate had rapidly increased from 17.92% to 58.52%, and the urban permanent population had increased from 170 million to 810 million.

It can be said that the process of reform and opening-up in New China has been accompanied by the rapid development and deepening of urbanization from the beginning to the end: from expanding and expanding into a "super" body in the north to a "new front" urban agglomeration, from the original single city center business ecosystem to the multi-point distribution of urban industry linking remote suburban counties and community business circles, from the frontier cities. The concept of Business Center (CBD) has evolved into a more comfortable, ecological and pluralistic urban life complex and public space (CAZ); from a relatively isolated and enclosed vast rural area to an increasingly deep inland urbanization economy, through the rapid coverage of Internet services throughout the country to open the geographic barriers between cities and villages... The core connotation of urbanization is gradually evolving from primary urbanization, industrialization and informationization to one-stop digital intellectualization based on advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence, big data, Internet of things, cloud computing and block chain. This new stage of development based on science and technology, communication and informationization can further connect data, sense, integrate and optimize the efficiency and efficiency of urban operation system. The quality of urbanization construction can respond intelligently to various needs including people's livelihood, environmental protection, public safety, urban services, industrial and commercial activities, which constitutes the core meaning of smart city which has been heatedly discussed worldwide today.

Smart City in China

"PATH" Complementary Win-Win

In recent years, the construction of China's smart cities has achieved great success and attracted worldwide attention. It has become the largest "test ground" for the construction of smart cities in the world: from the official launch of the national smart cities pilot work by the Ministry of Housing and Construction in 2012 to the first introduction of the construction of smart cities into the national strategic planning by the National New Urbanization Plan in 2014, and then to the report of the Nineteenth National Congress of the Communist Party of China. Based on the "smart society" of the general development of smart cities, the construction of smart cities in China has gone through a start-up period, a pilot period, a mature normative period, and has now entered a new period of vigorous development. In 2018, the National Development and Reform Commission further emphasized that "to improve the quality of urban development, classify and classify the construction of smart cities at different levels". At present, 95% of the cities above the deputy provincial level, more than 76% of the cities at the prefectural level and more than 500 cities in the country have explicitly proposed or are in the process of building smart cities.

In the rapid development stage of China, smart cities follow the investment and financing pattern of "government-led direction, market-led construction, enterprise cooperation and participation". This practice not only continuously transforms the mode of economic development, expands domestic demand and promotes the healthy development of domestic economy, but also helps to solve the challenges of population expansion, environmental pollution, traffic congestion, public safety, medical resources and so on in the process of urban development.

In turn, the development of social economy and market demand have led to the maturation of smart city industry. In the battlefield of top enterprise players in China's smart city field, a new term "PATH" has become popular in today's industry: Ping An, Ali, Tencent and Huawei, four giants with their respective emphasis, competition and complementarity, have formed the "BAT" of smart city circle and become the most representative four enterprises in this field.

"P" in "PATH" refers to China's peace and security, dedicated to providing comprehensive solutions for smart cities and becoming top-level design institutions; "A" refers to Ali, focusing on commercial attributes, and puts forward the concept of "installing brain for cities", aiming at processing data globally based on payment services and over-computing platforms, strengthening its A I analysis advantages in smart cities and enhancing the efficiency of urban sensing. "T" refers to Tencent, emphasizing that "connection" is the key word, relying on its powerful social application gene, to complete a number of intelligent service integration on the Wechat platform, and taking Wechat as the entrance, devotes itself to connecting and integrating the multi-point online and offline ecology, realizing the interconnection, sharing and intelligent integration of urban ecology; "H" refers to Huawei, relying on the business advantages of communication hardware, and more. Starting with infrastructure, we should integrate urban information resources and gradually improve urban informatization by building broadband network and geographic information system infrastructure platforms.

China's huge population base, the rapid growth of the economy, the continuous development of urbanization, and the "Internet +" new format that are leading the world and developing continuously provide huge opportunities for large domestic enterprises such as "PATH", and continue to invest in R & D and layout in the smart city. Among them, Ping An, as the only financial group among the four major enterprises, has distinct characteristics, which has triggered a lot of analysis in the industry. In fact, Ping An is not the first time to put forward the strategic guidance of "finance + science and technology" and integrate the business layout of smart cities into its long-term deep-ploughed "big financial assets".
